“The candidates did not have as much time to campaign this year as they did last year,” Mullaney explained. ‘‘I don’t think the students were altoge ther aware of the elections.” In addition, Mullaney believed that a lack of controversy in this year’s elections could have hurt the turnout. “Neither ticket was really fighting this year,” Mullaney said. ‘‘They each kind of went their own ways. Last year the tickets were quite comparable and therefore more controver sial,” she observed.
